Cramerton board adopts 2023 calendar, approves consent items; resident urges protection of greenways

The Town of Cramerton Board of Commissioners on Dec. 8 approved its 2023 meeting calendar and passed the consent agenda, which included meeting minutes, an appointment to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Budget Amendment #21.
Mayor Nelson Wills asked that the Oct. 29 draft minutes be amended to note that "communication" is the number-one objective; the board approved that change. The board also adopted the proposed 2023 Board of Commissioners meeting schedule; Mayor Wills noted he would be unavailable for the Feb. 2 meeting.
During the public comment period, Ali Bahr of 102 Front Street spoke about the town's greenways and their importance for cross-country and track athletes and other residents, saying it is "much safer to run on these trails as to running in traffic." The board recorded proclamations recognizing Wendy Cauthen as the town's 2022 Citizen of the Year and Ronnie Worley as the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
In the manager's report, Interim Town Manager Leamon Brice said a new town clerk has been hired and will begin work Jan. 3, 2023; interviews are underway for a planner to assist with permits and plan reviews. He also said the Waste Management contract is valid until Feb. 1 and that staff will continue discussions about rates and the next procurement timeline.
Department briefings noted the finance audit is wrapping up with results expected in February and that parks staff reported the holiday parade went well and an Egg Nog Jog is scheduled for Dec. 17. The meeting concluded at 6:50 p.m. following a motion to adjourn.
The minutes list several upcoming events and meetings, including a dam feasibility study at Confluence on Dec. 12 and a goals-and-objectives meeting on Dec. 14 at 5:00 p.m.
