Macon County awarded $300,000 from Dogwood Health Trust for opioid strategic planning

Macon County has been awarded $300,000 from Dogwood Health Trust to support a strategic planning process for opioid-related funds, County Manager Warren Cabe reported.
Cabe said the next steps include establishing a committee to develop the plan and contracting with a vendor or consultant to produce the plan in accordance with the grant guidelines. He said he would return to the board with additional information at the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting.
The board did not take further formal action on program design at the Dec. 9 meeting; the grant award provides funds specifically for planning rather than operational service delivery, and staff will return with recommendations about committee membership, consultant scope and timeline.
