Lavaca County commissioners approve donations, interlocal agreements and routine business; slab removal tabled

At its Jan. 12 meeting in Hallettsville the Lavaca County Commissioners unanimously accepted multiple donations, approved interlocal agreements and routine consent-agenda items, and tabled approval for concrete slab removal at 400 N. Texana until additional bids are received.
Lavaca County Commissioners voted Jan. 12 in Hallettsville to accept several philanthropic gifts, approve interlocal agreements and complete routine finance and permit items on the consent agenda.
The court unanimously accepted donations from the Dickson-Allen Foundation totaling $172,000: $150,000 to Lavaca County EMS, $12,000 to the Lavaca County Historical Commission and $10,000 to Records Retention/Archives (the “Press Gang”). Sherifff Steven Greenwell also presented and the court approved a separate $1,000 donation from Lake Robertson III to the sheriff’s office. “I make a motion to approve,” the court recorded as motions were offered and seconded for each donation.
The court approved an MOU between the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office and the Southern District of Texas and agreed to an intercounty contract with San Patricio County for juvenile detention services. Tax Assessor-Collector Deborah Sevcik presented and the court approved a County Boat Agent Agreement with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Commissioners moved several items into the consent agenda and approved them, including minutes from Nov. 24 and Dec. 22, 2025; temporary waterline and pipeline permits between EOG Resources and Lavaca County precincts; monthly treasurer and auditor reports; the quarterly investment report; tax assessor-collector reporting as required by the Property Tax Code; claims and payroll; and any budget amendments.
Commissioner Wayne Faircloth asked to delay action on removal of a concrete slab at 400 N. Texana until the final bid is received; Commissioner Edward Pustka moved to table the item and the court approved the request. The court also approved the IRS business standard mileage rate of 72.5 cents per mile, effective Jan. 1, 2026, and made a personnel administrative change through the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool replacing a named official on pool documents: Sheila Velasquez will serve as Interim Auditor and her name will replace the prior designee; Brooke Presley remains Assistant Auditor on the documents.
The court announced its next regular meeting for Jan. 26, 2026, and adjourned at about 9:57 a.m.
