Clinton County Legislature adopts 2018 budget with unanimous vote

The Clinton County Legislature adopted the 2018 county budget on Dec. 13, 2017, approving Resolution #963 by a 10-0 roll call vote. Chairperson Harry McManus called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. and the budget resolution was considered after committee reports and the finance update.

Legislator Mark Dame (Area 8) asked that the levy figure in the resolution be corrected and called the 2018 budget "a very solid budget," thanking County Administrator Michael E. Zurlo and county managers and employees for their work. "We can be very proud that a minuscule tax rate increase and the tax levy has been under one percent," Dame said. Legislator Samuel Dyer (Area 3) said the Legislature had done a good job controlling spending and thanked Zurlo and staff for making legislators' work easier.

County Administrator Michael E. Zurlo, who conducted roll call earlier in the meeting, was thanked repeatedly during the discussion for staff coordination. The Legislature carried Resolution #963 and several other budget-related and administrative resolutions by unanimous voice votes or polling during the session.

The body approved the budget after the public hearing on Dec. 6 and took the formal adoption vote at the Dec. 13 meeting. The Legislature noted only a clerical correction to the levy figure was needed; no further amendments to the budget were raised on the floor. The meeting record shows the vote on Resolution #963 passed 10-0-0.

The Legislature proceeded to consider other resolutions and then entered executive session to discuss pending litigation before adjourning at 8:29 p.m.
