Hanford — City staff asked the City Council to introduce and waive first reading of an ordinance adopting the 2025 California Building Standards (Title 24) and to continue the public hearing to Dec. 16 for final action.
Mitch, the city’s new chief building official, explained the state’s triennial code update and noted Part 7 (Wildland‑Urban Interface Code) is included though it does not apply to Hanford’s jurisdiction. Staff said local amendments and previously adopted appendices (for agricultural buildings, patio covers, plumbing alternatives) would carry forward and that the new codes take effect Jan. 1, 2026 statewide.
Council moved to waive first reading of Ordinance 25‑12 and to continue the public hearing to Dec. 16 consistent with government‑code procedure; the motion passed on a recorded vote. Staff noted adoption preserves local enforcement authority and ensures consistency for builders and contractors.
The ordinance will come back for adoption at the Dec. 16 council meeting; the statewide code effective date is Jan. 1, 2026.
