Frenship board recognizes FFA national champion and state social studies teacher

The Frenship ISD board honored Friendship High senior Gunnar Claybrook for winning a national FFA specialty crop production proficiency title and recognized Crestview first-grade teacher Sandra Wimberly as the Texas Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
The Frenship ISD board recognized two local educators and a student during its open meeting.
Tiffany Taylor, speaking for the Friendship Foundation, introduced Friendship High senior Gunnar Claybrook and announced he won the SFA national championship in specialty crop production proficiency. "We are very excited to congratulate Friendship High School senior, Gunnar Claybrook, on being named the SFA national champion for the specialty crop production proficiency," Taylor said. Taylor noted Ag Texas Farm Credit Services provided a $2,000 check to Friendship FFA to help cover travel and competition expenses.
Gunnar, who competed in a series of interviews and district-to-state competitions, told the board his team won the Lubbock District and will advance to the area contest in Canyon.
The board also honored Crestview Elementary first-grade teacher Sandra Wimberly, who was named the Texas Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year at a state convention in Frisco on Nov. 1. Crestview principal Ginger Hicks praised Wimberly's classroom work and mentorship of new teachers.
These recognitions were ceremonial and no board action was required.
