FRENSHIP ISD calendar committee releases two draft calendars; survey to close Jan. 29

The FRENSHIP ISD School Board received an update from the calendar committee on two draft academic calendars for the 2024–25 school year and the public survey that will determine the committee’s recommendation.
Tiffany Decker, speaking for the calendar committee, said the district must meet a minimum of 75,600 instructional minutes for students and 187 staff days. She outlined two drafts: Draft A would have staff return Monday, Aug. 10, and students start Wednesday, Aug. 19; Draft B would have staff return Thursday, Aug. 6, and students start Monday, Aug. 17. Key differences center on the start date and placement of spring holidays and staff development days.
Decker said the committee includes representatives from all 16 campuses, district departments and about 11 parents. She said the district has used ThoughtExchange for the survey and at the time of her report about 60 people had responded; roughly 55% of respondents were parents and about 12% identified as both staff and parent. "So right now, draft A is winning just by 51%," Decker said. The committee will close the survey at noon on Jan. 29, review the results at a Jan. 29 meeting (and meet again Feb. 5 if needed), and then recommend a calendar draft to the board during the Feb. 18 meeting.
Board members thanked the committee for outreach and engagement; no formal vote was taken on the calendar during the meeting.
Next steps: the committee will analyze the survey feedback at its Jan. 29 meeting and determine whether further meetings are necessary before forwarding a recommendation to the board on Feb. 18.
