Summary
Trustees adopted a net-zero budget amendment after administration reported a $500,000 gain in prior-year tax collection estimates offset by decreases to interest earnings and state funding; staff said total revenue and ending balance are not expected to change at this time.
The Lake Travis ISD board adopted Amendment No. 2 to the 2025–26 operating budget at its Feb. 25 meeting after a staff presentation on revenue adjustments and reimbursements.
Pam Sanchez highlighted changes proposed in the amendment: a $500,000 upward adjustment to prior-year tax collections due to fewer refunds and protest settlements than expected; a $300,000 reduction to interest-earning estimates because of lower investment balances and rates; a roughly $226,000 decrease related to a prior-year state funding settlement; and an increase tied to SHARS Medicaid reimbursements. Administration described the amendment as budgetary reforecasting and recommended approval.
Trustees asked about the reliability of the interest and investment estimates. Sanchez said the estimate was conservative based on current balances and that state funding continues to adjust as attendance and audit data are finalized. One trustee noted the coincidence that the listed adjustments net to zero and flagged it for continued monitoring; staff said budget figures remain estimates and will be revised as data change.
A motion to approve Amendment No. 2 carried unanimously. Trustees also received the district’s January financial reports, which showed general fund expenditures running in expected ranges (payroll and benefits as a significant portion of year-to-date spending) and total collections consistent with seasonal patterns.
The board directed staff to continue monitoring investment returns and revenue lines and to report back as additional state and collection data are finalized.
