Plano ISD celebrates student, staff and district recognitions including state art educator honor and CTE distinction

The board opened the meeting with multiple recognitions honoring student achievements and district staff.
Board President Lauren Tyra congratulated Plano East sophomore guard Ariana Robinson for reaching a 1,000‑career‑point milestone and praised the Plano West cheer program for securing a bid to the UCA national competition. Tyra also recognized that 107 Plano ISD educators were awarded more than $160,000 in grants from the Plano ISD Education Foundation and community partners.
Colin McGrane, K–12 visual arts coordinator, introduced Christina Correa of Plano Senior High School as the Texas Art Educator of the Year and praised her dedication and impact on students, describing her work as driven by "love, care, compassion". Ivan Cantu announced that Plano ISD was designated a 2025 CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas in recognition of career and technical education programming.
Chief Communications Officer Lehi Rangeton and others presented 'Plano ISD Proud' awards to employees including Myrna Avila (Thomas Elementary office manager), Ken Williams (Learning & Media Services), Tomas Girma (Matthews Elementary special education teacher) and Steve Durbin (Technology Services), who was honored as he retires after a long district career.
Speakers invited honorees and guests to the front for photos, and the board thanked staff and community partners for support.
