Ware County manager reports project notices issued; commission approves Freedom Shrine purchase and receives staff COLA thanks

At the Feb. 9 work session County Manager James Shubert updated commissioners on several infrastructure items: a Notice to Proceed for the State Street/US 1 overpass is expected by month-end, a Notice to Proceed has been issued for the Hog Creek Bridge project, the Gum Swamp project has been let, and a level 2 environmental assessment will be conducted for the Albany Avenue overpass after 22 potential environmental issue locations were identified.
Billy Carter, chief appraiser for the Board of Tax Assessors, thanked the commission for the 2% cost-of-living adjustment approved at the Jan. 9 meeting and said his office is fully staffed. Commissioner Leonard Burse asked about placing a Freedom Shrine display in the administration building; Danny Bartlett, Exchange Club president-elect, said the downstairs lobby would be suitable and estimated the display cost at about $1,500. The commission authorized the county manager to purchase the Freedom Shrine with county funds.
These items were handled as administrative updates and were not the subject of separate formal votes during the work session beyond the purchase authorization.
