Commission to research fenced, monitored county dumpster sites amid concerns about illegal dumping

At the Jan. 12 work session Chairman Elmer Thrift proposed establishing about four dumpster sites around Ware County that would be fenced, gated and monitored by cameras. County Manager James Shubert said staff would research whether sites should be available weekly, monthly or quarterly and report options back to the commission.
Commissioner Leonard Burse said he supported the idea if it is done correctly and warned the program could 'backfire' if people abuse the sites by dumping tires, furniture and other large items without controls. The commission granted the county manager permission to investigate available options and added the topic to the regular meeting agenda for further action.
