Ware County commissioners back renaming Cameron Lane to honor slain investigator; public hearing planned

Robert Wallace told the Ware County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 9 that residents on Cameron Lane support renaming the road to Taylor Bristow Road to honor Investigator Taylor Bristow, who died in the line of duty in August 2024. Wallace also asked the commission to waive the fees and costs associated with a name change.
Commissioner Jon Tindall said he gave his full support and noted he knew Investigator Bristow as a teenager. Commissioner Timmy Lucas said he backed the idea “100%.” Commissioner Leonard Burse said he is generally wary of waiving fees because it can set a precedent but acknowledged this situation differs because it recognizes a public servant who was killed while working.
County Manager James Shubert told the commission the cost would be roughly $400, covering four road signs and the name-change application fee, and that state law/local process requires a public hearing. Shubert said the public hearing could likely be scheduled for the April meeting to allow time for legal notice and advertising.
The commission did not take a formal vote during the work session; commissioners expressed support and the item was placed for consideration on the regular meeting agenda so the required public hearing and any decision on fee waivers can occur.
