Victoria ISD honors retirees, communications team wins gold and student author donates books

Trustees opened their Dec. 18 meeting by recognizing employees and student‑centered achievements across Victoria ISD. The board honored 12 midyear retirees from roles across the district (examples cited during the program included educators, a bus assistant, custodial and maintenance staff) and thanked them for years of service.
Superintendent Cuyaza announced the VISD Communications Department earned an International Gold MarCom award for a fully in‑house welcome video produced by Ashley and Jacob Corral. ‘‘Receiving this level of recognition places the VISD communications department alongside some of the strongest creative teams in the field and reflects the exceptional talent, vision, and professionalism within our communications department,’’ the superintendent said.
The board also heard from guest Presley Thomas, a graduate student at Texas A&M who created a children’s book, Reveille’s Aggieland Adventure, for her capstone project. Thomas described sales of more than 1,000 copies and said proceeds will support early literacy; she announced that Speedy Stop will donate copies and that the project will provide one copy to every first‑grade classroom in Victoria ISD.
Trustees praised campus programs, academic and extracurricular highlights and thanked volunteers and community partners. The recognitions portion of the meeting concluded before the board moved into the evening’s business agenda.
