Life EMS reports 584 transports in quarter; Ferry station activity exceeds expectations

Life EMS Director of North Operations Jeff Stockhill told the county’s Courts & Public Safety Committee on June 12 that Life EMS handled 584 ambulance transports and on-scene assessments in Oceana County during the reporting quarter, a decrease of 72 from the same quarter last year.
Stockhill said Ferry station activity had been higher than anticipated after the facility opened, noting that initial reports showed more transports than expected and subsequent checks confirmed the numbers. He told commissioners the agency had added equipment beyond state requirements, including two "Stop the Bleed" kits carried on all ambulances, to aid rapid response to multiple-injury incidents.
Staffing was reported as strong, with Life EMS working to fill a few remaining summer shifts; the agency also committed resources for coverage at large events such as the Electric Forest Festival. Stockhill said a decision on computer-aided dispatch software had not yet been made and that some calls are flagged with exemptions for winter-weather delays in performance reporting, which are documented through a review process.
Commissioners had the opportunity to ask about reporting methodology and exemption requests; Stockhill described the review used to determine whether weather, distance or other factors justify an exemption note on a call record.
The committee recessed with no formal action requested; the report provides the county oversight committee updated operational data for EMS planning and budgeting.
