At its January 3, 2011 organizational meeting the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Michael P. O’Hare as chair and Commissioner Timothy M. Novak as vice chair. The session—called to order by County Clerk Susan Kaltenbach—also confirmed the 2011 meeting schedule and nominated the board’s standing committees, including Appropriations and Rules.
The top-of-the-year organizational meeting is required by the Board’s rules. Acting Chair Kaltenbach opened nominations and instructed the clerk to cast a unanimous ballot after no further nominations were made. Commissioners also approved the 2011 Rules Committee and the Special Committee on Rules was tasked to review the rules adopted pending final committee recommendations. The board placed several routine committee assignments and appointments on the record and adjourned.
The organizational meeting establishes the board’s leadership and committee assignments for the year and sets the schedule and housekeeping matters that guide board business through the session year. Susan Kaltenbach, the county clerk, presided as acting chair at the start of the session and announced roll; Commissioner O’Hare took the chair after the vote.
