The Oceana County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a Garrett Paragon ADA-compliant metal detector for $7,113.32 at its March 13 meeting, directing staff to verify whether the quote includes removal of the old unit and installation work.
The motion was moved by Commissioner Beggs and supported by Commissioner Hardy; the roll-call vote was 5-0 in favor. The Courts & Public Safety Committee had recommended replacing the county’s 2002 unit, which the committee said is beyond its expected service life. Undersheriff Ryan Schiller told the committee the recommended product is the Paragon ADA Compliant GSA (Garrett). The board asked staff to confirm the quote covers installation and electrical compatibility; if additional funds are required, staff must report back to the board.
Commissioners noted the county may be able to repurpose the existing detector at another county facility once removed. Funding was discussed as coming from the Capital Improvement Budget and follow-up reporting to the board was requested.
