Oceana County seeks consolidated cleaning bids, vets group to get appointed members and parks pursue ADA improvements

The Oceana County Board on Feb. 27 authorized the county administrator to solicit proposals to provide cleaning services for the Health Department, Community Services Building and the County Courthouse, a move administrators said would consolidate the current single-employee arrangement.
Commissioners also approved two grant authorizations for Cedar Point Park: a $5,000 application to the Community Foundation to install two concrete bench pads for ADA access, and a $3,800 application to the GLE Peoples Fund for a concrete driveway to provide stable vehicle access for utility work. Both grant requests were presented by Garry McKeen of Parks and Recreation and approved by roll-call vote.
The board confirmed appointments of Trisha Marsh and Benjamin Bone to the Veterans Affairs Committee for three-year terms through Dec. 31, 2027. Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Tracy Blamer reported expanded fundraising activity, including a veterans parade in Hart, and introduced part-time Veteran Services Officer Sam Nanasi.
Administrator Byard said the Building Department move is nearly complete (electrical and furniture installed, fiber and phones pending) and that the Community Services Building will have available office space that could be used by Veterans Affairs and potentially MSU Extension. Committee members discussed the needs of the Veterans Affairs office (including freezer and refrigeration space for a food pantry) and asked administration and the Building Committee to return recommendations.
The board did not authorize immediate construction for the park projects; both actions are grant applications and any work will proceed only if funding is awarded.
