Oceana County adopts multicounty materials management budget, expects state reimbursement

Oceana County commissioners voted Feb. 27 to adopt a Materials Management Plan (MMP) budget as part of a multicounty effort with Lake, Mason, Muskegon and Newaygo counties. The board approved $83,330 per year for 2025–2028 and $70,000 for 2029.
Administrator Byard told the committee that Michigan counties are required to have a Materials Management Plan and that the counties have agreed to serve as Coordinating Agencies (CAAs) while the West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission will serve as the designated planning agency. Chairperson Walker noted the budget must be adopted so the county can receive and disburse state reimbursement funds.
Motion #2025-29, moved by Commissioner Beggs and supported by Commissioner McCormick, passed unanimously. The board directed administration to coordinate with regional partners and to return with implementation steps as required.
