Nemaha County commissioners approve Sapp Brothers fuel bid, buy Link2Pump system and hire snow‑removal contractor

At a Dec. 30 meeting in Auburn, the Nemaha County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a Sapp Brothers fuel bid for January 2026, authorized purchase of a Link2Pump fuel‑management system, appointed Kip Reeves to the Nemaha County Planning Commission, and hired Jon Thomas to provide snow removal for the Wellness Center parking lot.
Chairman Michael Weiss, Commissioner Mike Hall and Commissioner Bryan Mellage affirmed the motions by roll call, with all three voting aye on each recorded action. The board opened the meeting at 8:00 a.m. and approved the agenda, the Dec. 16 minutes and accounts‑payable claims before taking up scheduled presentations and contracts.
On procurement, the board accepted Sapp Brothers’ January fuel bid with prices listed as: #1 Clear Diesel $3.00 per gallon, #2 Clear Diesel $2.51 per gallon and regular gasoline (with ethanol) $2.039 per gallon. The motion to accept the Sapp Brothers bid was made by Commissioner Mike Hall and seconded by Commissioner Bryan Mellage.
On equipment and internal controls, the board voted to purchase Link2Pump fuel‑management hardware and software for the Road Department. The system purchase carries a one‑time cost of $18,400.00 and a recurring programming fee of $5,400.00 per year; the authorization was moved by Chairman Michael Weiss and seconded by Hall. The record shows the purchase was made at the auditor’s request to improve fuel monitoring for county equipment.
The board also appointed Kip Reeves of Peru to the Nemaha County Planning Commission on a motion from Commissioner Mellage, seconded by Hall. No objections or alternate nominees were recorded in the minutes.
For facilities maintenance, after reviewing three quotes the board voted to hire Jon Thomas to perform snow removal at the Wellness Center parking lot at a rate of $150.00 per removal. The motion was moved by Mellage and seconded by Hall.
Other business reported to the commissioners included a Cooper Nuclear Plant briefing by Dakota Schulenberg on implementing the IPAWS emergency‑alerting program and a note that Cooper has a scheduled outage in October 2026; an update from Vicky McNealy that SENCA will continue to use the county’s former HHS building for its programs; confirmation that the courthouse phone system is installed and functioning; and a scheduled internet cutover to Five Nines on Jan. 8. The board also discussed setting new county official salaries for 2027–2030 and scheduled a special meeting for Jan. 5 at 1:30 p.m.; salaries must be set by resolution by Jan. 15, 2026.
The board reviewed and approved claims across multiple funds and adjourned at 1:55 p.m. The clerk’s office will post the complete minutes and the finalized claims list on the Nemaha County website.
