WFISD reports modest enrollment decline, previews McNeil renovations and program moves

District staff reported a year‑to‑date enrollment decline and outlined facilities and program changes tied to the opening of McNeil Elementary.

In an administrative update, staff said the district is down about 185 students year‑to‑date and average daily attendance was approximately 94.3%. "So we're about minus 185 students year to date," the staff presenter said, and noted that a substantial share of the losses has been to homeschooling and some movement to charter schools. Staff said the district will provide TEA labor reports to show where students moved.

On facilities, staff displayed photographs showing substantial renovation work at McNeil Elementary — demolition to floor and ceiling in parts of the building, creation of a kindergarten hub with new restrooms, and a full cafeteria and stage overhaul. Staff said some abatement work is underway and that Jefferson Elementary will close when McNeil opens; students from Jefferson will be assigned to McNeil under the attendance‑zone changes approved later in the meeting.

Staff also reviewed program adjustments and partnerships, including town halls on a collaboration with Third Future and a partnership with Hershey for selected feeder schools. Staff clarified how Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) funds move: the state provides TIA funding to the district, the district reimburses a partner that pays teachers, and the district retains responsibility for local administration of the funds.

Next steps: staff said they will share labor/TEA reports on student movement, continue construction updates and provide implementation steps for campus closures and program relocations.
