The Wichita Falls ISD board voted unanimously to authorize staff to apply for a competitive TEA LIFT grant and an associated add‑on, which district staff said could provide up to roughly $600,000 for the base award (over three years) and up to about $400,000 for an add‑on award.
Assistant/administrator S4 described the LIFT program as a three‑year grant to build instructional capacity and support implementation of high‑quality instructional materials (HQIM). "There's a possibility that we could receive $600,000 in grant funds," S4 said, explaining that roughly 70% of that award would go to a TEA‑vetted provider selected by the district, with about 30% retained to supply materials and supplemental local support. For the LIFT add‑on the speaker said the district's split would be different: about 50% to the partner and 50% retained by the district. Award notices were expected in February.
A trustee (S10) moved to approve submitting the application; the motion carried 7–0. Board discussion emphasized that the grant is competitive, that partner selection and program design would follow TEA guidelines, and that most of the funds would pay the selected provider for implementation and coaching.
What it means: if awarded, the grant would fund coaching, professional development, instructional leadership capacity and expansion of selected instructional programs (the district cited plans to expand Bluebonnet math to include Algebra I and to fund teacher coaching and supplemental materials). Staff said competitive selection and a required partner arrangement mean the district must carefully choose a provider and that large portions of the award would flow to that partner under grant rules.
Next steps: staff will complete the application and return with details about selected campuses and provider options if the award is made.
