ALIEF ISD approves pay for staff who worked to secure buildings during January freeze

"There were workers that came in on Saturday and Sunday to continue to make sure those boilers were up and running," Deputy Superintendent Charles Woods said, describing maintenance, custodial and building-operations work that supported reopening after the storm. Woods said the premium pay for employees who worked extra hours is in the neighborhood of $14,000 and that the regular one-day pay for all normally scheduled employees is more than $1,000,000.
Trustees spoke in support of paying staff. Trustee Rick Moreno and others thanked the maintenance and custodial employees for their work; Trustee (pastor) Brett Patrick moved the motion to approve and the board seconded and approved the resolution.
The resolution authorizes payment for the day of Jan. 26 according to employees' normal schedules and provides premium pay for the staff who worked during the event. The board recorded the motion and announced the vote as passed.
The administration said the funding for these payments was already in the budget and that the resolution preserves consistent pay for employees without requiring a later makeup day.
