Cherokee County commissioners approve multiple budget revisions, capital projects and appointments

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 20 approved a series of budget revisions and capital-project actions affecting schools, public safety and county services.
Among the financial actions, the board authorized using Article 46 sales tax balance to complete a roof project at Tri-County Community College ($114,306.90) and adopted a Capital Project Ordinance and an engineering services agreement with REI Engineers for a roof replacement at Andrews Elementary School. The board also approved a budget revision to add $18,188.41 to accommodate scope changes at EMS Station 2 and approved contingency funding for a commercial washing machine at the Cherokee County Detention Center ($18,547) and a replacement freezer ($31,320).
Commissioners approved a $344,906.23 proposal from PBI, Inc. to furnish the new Senior/VA facility; CFO Candy Anderson said the county expects sales tax refunds and project interest to offset those costs. The board reinstated an Administrative Assistant position at EMS (pay grade 62) following the retirement of the Emergency Services Director; County Manager Randy Wiggins described the restructuring as a cost-saving measure. The board also approved grant-related actions for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department (accreditation and overtime grants with no county match).
The meeting included routine administrative approvals: appointments to advisory boards, establishment of a Special Board of Equalization and Review for 2026, approval of tax releases and refunds, and approval to advertise a foreclosure property on Angel Mountain. Several rescue and fire-related funding items were approved, including a $7,500 50/50 grant match for Peachtree Volunteer Fire Department and $15,350 for Hiwassee Dam VFD equipment upgrades.
The board approved all of the above motions by recorded unanimous votes unless otherwise noted in the minutes. The clerk is authorized to execute documents where noted.
