Board authorizes Peachtree VFD to pursue absorption of Brasstown fire district, contingent on public input

Jordan Messer appeared before the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners Sept. 15 to request support for Peachtree Volunteer Fire Department to assume responsibility for the Brasstown Fire Response/Fire Tax District. Commissioners discussed the proposal and emphasized the need for public meetings in Brasstown.
On a motion by Vice-Chairman Cal Stiles, seconded by Commissioner Alan Bryant, the board unanimously authorized Peachtree VFD to proceed with plans to absorb the Brasstown Fire District effective July 1, 2026, provided that Peachtree and county staff hold the required public meetings and obtain input from Brasstown residents before final implementation.
The board did not adopt a final transfer or funding agreement at the meeting; it authorized Peachtree VFD to advance operational and transition planning and to report back to the board following public engagement.
