Round Rock Council PTA reports membership gains and a $500 Title I assistance program

Melissa, president of the Round Rock Council of PTAs, presented the council’s fall 'State of the Council' report at the Dec. 9 Round Rock ISD board meeting.

Melissa said council membership had grown from 12,797 (the count when she compiled the report) to 12,899 the morning of the meeting. She noted that 14 of 55 PTAs increased membership and six campuses have achieved 'Golden Apple' status. The council also earned 'outstanding council platinum' and several membership spotlight awards.

On grants and support, Melissa said the council received a National PTA grant last spring and is offering $500 to Title I campus PTAs to support food or snack assistance. "If you are a PTA in a Title I campus and you see a need for food assistance, please contact Council PTA and we will give you $500 to buy snacks or food for that campus," she said. She said there is no application required and encouraged campus PTAs to use the funds to start food pantries or related support.

Melissa acknowledged a challenging year for council governance—she described a difficult financial reconciliation that led to some board resignations—but said the council fulfilled all requests from its reconciliation committee and is now in good standing. She outlined upcoming spring dates, including a Jan. 29 delegate meeting at the district’s new CTE building, a March 10 election meeting and an April 1 final delegate meeting.

Board members thanked Melissa and had no recorded objections to the council’s report.
