Round Rock ISD board enters closed session on parent complaint; no motion on Level 3 grievance

The Round Rock Independent School Board of Trustees entered a closed session at 5:31 p.m. to consider a parent complaint filed by Bridget Ortiz, the meeting's presiding officer said; the board returned to open session at 6:22 p.m. and made no motion on a Level 3 grievance, leaving the Level 2 decision in place.

The presiding officer read the reason for the closed session on the record: "Pursuant to Texas government code sections 551.071 and 551.074, the board will discuss, deliberate, and consider a parent complaint pursuant to board policy FNG Local filed by Bridget Ortiz." The board asked non-board attendees to leave and met in closed session beginning at 5:31 p.m.

Earlier in the call, the presiding officer announced trustees in attendance — Trustee Querra, Trustee Weh, Trustee Ross and Trustee Markham — and noted Trustee Landrum joined virtually. The presiding officer also said there would be no public comment that night and that agenda item D1 would not be heard this evening so the board could continue to explore resolution options; the meeting proceeded to agenda item E1 before the closed session.

After returning to open session at 6:22 p.m., the presiding officer asked, "Do I have a motion regarding the Level 3 grievance?" and, on seeing no motion, stated that "no action will be taken, thus leaving the decision of Level 2 in place." The presiding officer added that if no Level 2 had been issued in the matter, the board's action in hearing the grievance satisfied its obligation under board policy. The Level 3 grievance hearing was then declared concluded and the meeting was adjourned at 6:22 p.m.
