Round Rock ISD says year‑one bond work is underway; year two will fund 151 new projects
Summary
District leaders and bond managers told trustees the 2024 bond has funded dozens of projects — Chromebooks, stadium LED retrofits, buses with seat belts and safety cameras, tracks resurfaced and drinking‑fountain replacements — and that year two proceeds will fund 151 additional projects while 92 projects continue in progress.

Round Rock Independent School District presented a year‑one progress report on the 2024 bond program on Feb. 17, telling trustees that early investments have focused on safety, instructional technology and deferred maintenance while year two proceeds will expand construction and upgrades.
Superintendent Dr. Aziz and HPM representatives summarized the bond program: voters authorized $933 million in the 2024 bond; the district sold roughly $350 million in year‑one proceeds (first closings in January–March 2025) and sold a further $300 million in a year‑two sale. HPM said the district secured favorable interest rates that translate into long‑term interest savings for taxpayers.
What was funded and delivered: officials highlighted districtwide technology distribution (44,000 Chromebooks plus additional replacement devices), a 66% reported increase in high‑school robotics participation tied to equipment and program expansion, a district LED stadium lighting retrofit to meet UIL lighting standards across six high‑school stadiums, resurfacing of three middle‑school tracks (affecting about 3,600 students), 25 new buses with seat belts and multi‑camera installations, hundreds of new instruments for music programs, new marquees, and early procurement of maintenance vehicles and custodial robotic cleaners.
Infrastructure details: the bond team reviewed ongoing projects including interior LED fixture replacement (about 7,000 fixtures), water‑fountain and bottle‑filler replacements (about 600 planned over the bond life, ~85 completed in phase one), marquee standardization, roofing, HVAC, restroom renovations, turf conversions and portable relocations. HPM explained the district is standardizing specifications to reduce future parts and maintenance complexity.
Year 2 and web transparency: the district said year two will fund 151 new projects and complete or extend 92 projects carried over from year one; administration emphasized the bond website and dashboard provide campus‑level project scopes, schedules and encumbrance amounts (administration reported roughly $136 million encumbered to date). Officials said year‑two proceeds should be available in March and that the district will sequence replacements (for example, rotating fountain replacement to avoid mass replacements in a single future year).
Next steps: project design, permitting and procurement remain underway. Trustees were invited to use the bond dashboard for project details and the administration said they will continue to update the board and public as projects transition from design into active construction.
