Madison County commissioners on Feb. 3 voted to remove three parcels from the county's 2026 commissioner sale to allow Anderson developers and housing authorities to pursue residential projects.
Kevin Schultz, representing the Anderson Community Development Corporation, told the board two adjacent parcels (tax parcel endings 301‑066 and 301‑067) in the 400 block of West 22nd Street sit amid previously donated lots and ‘‘would make it whole and complete’’ for neighborhood redevelopment. ‘‘We would donate these parcels to Habitat for Humanity for the building, up to new houses as part of their program so they would become homeowner properties,’’ Schultz said.
The board approved Resolution 2026‑BC‑R‑06 by title to remove those parcels from the commissioner sale. Schultz then, ‘‘switching hats’’ as a representative of the City of Anderson Housing Authority, described parcel 303‑147 south of 222 Fulton Street near West Hill/Westville Manor as an empty lot suitable for future affordable single‑family rental housing. The board adopted Resolution 2026‑BC‑R‑07 by title to remove that parcel from the sale.
Chair Kevin framed both actions as part of ongoing efforts to assemble land near existing affordable‑housing sites. No public opposition or alternate uses for the parcels were presented at the meeting. The resolutions were passed by voice vote.
Next steps noted by presenters included obtaining a tax deed and proceeding with property transfer or donation to Habitat for Humanity (for the West 22nd parcels) and further planning for housing adjacent to West Hill Manor for the Fulton Street parcel. The actions remove the parcels from the immediate sale list so local agencies may pursue development.
