Round Rock ISD honors student ensembles, counselors and principals

The Round Rock Independent School District board opened its meeting by honoring dozens of student ensembles and staff across the district.
The board congratulated directors and student musicians from Canyon Vista Middle School Symphony Orchestra, Cedar Valley Middle School honors band, Deer Park Middle School Wind Symphony, Pearson Ranch Middle School Honor Orchestra and McNeil High School Chamber Singers for commended performances. The district also recognized Citation of Excellence winners and showcased Select Band and Philharmonic ensembles from Round Rock High School and other campuses.
Trustees invited principals, area superintendents and fine‑arts staff, including director of fine arts performing Yeager Lloyd, to join students and directors onstage for photos and brief remarks.
The meeting also singled out athletics and staff: Westwood High Schoolteam tennis athletes were recognized as UIL state team champions and the board called forward coaches Travis Dalrymple and Dan Beut, principal Aaron Campbell, athletic director Jeff Cheatham and area superintendent Doc Oldham.
Administrators highlighted staff awards and professional honors: Purple Sage Elementary principal Sarah Nelson and Laurel Mountain principal Mandy Masters were recognized for early literacy work, and April Nilsson, principal of Birkman Elementary School, was named the Texas Art Education Association 2025 Principal of the Year. The board also acknowledged four campus counselors who received Lone Star State School Counselor Association awards, including Marissa Cano and Carrie Hans.
Trustees said the recognitions reflect broad community and volunteer support, and they noted short videos and web resources the district will publish to document the work.
