Trustees of the Stafford MSD heard public commenters urge stronger early-reading instruction and asked the board to revisit a personnel decision at their meeting.
Trustee Sue Richard addressed the board during the public-comment period, arguing that early literacy gaps in the district are an academic and equity issue and emphasizing instructional approaches meant to build fluency and comprehension. She told trustees the district needs consistent, culturally authentic texts and real-time teacher supports so students "see those empowering, instead of remedial" materials and develop confidence.
A parent later urged the board to review the termination of a teacher referred to in public comment as Miss Delsey (also transcribed as Dilson). The parent said the employee's termination occurred before a final investigation recommendation was completed and asked trustees to reconsider whether district processes were applied consistently and proportionally. The speaker said the action "does not align with the severity of the behavior" described and requested that the board review records the speaker provided to trustees.
The board did not respond to public comment at the time, consistent with its announced rules. The district has not recorded a board action to reinstate or otherwise alter the personnel decision in the meeting record.
The public-comment exchanges signaled two strands of community concern: (1) a push from at least one trustee and public speakers for more intensive early-literacy investment and classroom-aligned tools; and (2) a parent's call for procedural review in a teacher-discipline case, including review of investigation timing and whether appropriate steps were taken before termination. The board did not take formal action on either issue during the meeting; trustees heard the comments and moved on to the business items on the posted agenda.
