Commissioners approve certificate of completion for county broadband project

The Cass County Commissioners unanimously approved a certificate of completion for the county’s broadband project at their Feb. 17 meeting.
Economic development director Christy Householder told the board the county received $1,000,000 in state 'ready' funds and used $1,000,000 in ARP funds as the local match. She said Miami Cass REMC was the winning bidder and staff reported the project ultimately involved $10,492,159 of investment. Householder said the build produced 202 miles of installed fiber and 6,942 passings across Cass County.
A broadband contractor representative reported the ring is serviceable, installers are connecting customers daily, and approximately 30 miles of work remain under a federal grant in the county’s northwest corner. Householder asked the board to approve the certificate of completion; the board moved, seconded and approved the certificate by voice vote.
The approval formalizes staff confirmation that the project as described to the board is complete and allows related administrative close-out steps. The board did not discuss further financial adjustments at the meeting.
The county has previously reported the project used ARP funds as a grant match and received state funding; staff said they will scan and circulate final closeout documents to commissioners.
