Commissioners extend enforcement deadlines for two Huntington County properties after public hearings

Huntington County commissioners extended enforcement deadlines for two properties after hearing updates and public comment on Nov. 3.
At a public hearing on 4143 S Warren Rd that opened at 9:45 a.m., DCD Director Kim Hostetler said an inspection appointment was rescheduled and the new inspection is set for Nov. 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Property owner Larry Johnson said he owns the oldest house in Majenica and prefers to repair rather than demolish the structure; he acknowledged the roof needs repair and said he can afford the work. The board voted to extend the Order of Enforcement deadline to Dec. 1, 2025 and required the owner to appear at the Dec. 1 public hearing with a plan to bring the dwelling into compliance. Commissioner Tom Wall moved the extension; Commissioner Terry Stoffel seconded and the motion passed 3-0.
In a separate public hearing at 10:03 a.m. regarding the property identified as 8132 N – 894 W in Bippus, Building Inspector Greg Ricker reported exterior progress — painting and roof repair — and listed remaining items including window replacements and new fascia and gutters; owners said they plan to resume work in spring 2026 because of winter. The board extended the enforcement deadline to May 1, 2026 and required the owner to appear at the May 4, 2026 hearing with the work completed. The motion passed unanimously.
