Commissioners review public-safety contracts and department reports; ambulance bids taken under advisement

Posey County commissioners on Jan. 6 opened four bids for a new ambulance and voted unanimously to take the bids under advisement until the next meeting. The bids announced were: MacQueen $297,997; American Response Vehicle $253,700; Fire Service Inc. $260,301; Emergency Vehicle Plus $314,897.
Sheriff Tom Latham updated the board on jail housing and maintenance, reporting 6 Department of Correction inmates, 23 Vanderburgh County inmates, 85 Posey County inmates (114 total) and $27,800 in housing income for December. He also listed maintenance events logged in the jail during the reporting period.
The board approved a maintenance contract with BMWC for work at the jail. Sheriff Latham asked permission to solicit quotes for a new police pursuit vehicle; the board authorized that request and confirmed the purchase is included in the Sheriff's budget. Motions on both items passed 3-0.
Emergency Management Director Carrie Thompson reported two ongoing issues with a new siren in Wadesville; both items are under warranty and are being addressed. Thompson said the Project Life Saver program is operational and has already responded to two incidents.
Dispatch Director Jamie Bradford requested approval to purchase a training program and said she will advertise for a part-time dispatcher. EMS Director Paul Micheletti reported 202 requests in December, 142 transfers, and $120,803.17 in December income; he said a remount ambulance is expected later in the week and that contract talks with Marrs Township continue.
The board recorded all procurement and contract approvals by unanimous vote and received the departmental briefings with no formal public action attached to the reports.
