Southwestern Mental Health reports shorter waits, expanded school services in Posey County

Southwestern Mental Health told commissioners it served 488 Posey County residents in 2025, reduced assessment wait times in the latter half of 2025 to zero days, and provided services in two Mt. Vernon schools with plans to expand.
Kate Adams of Southwestern Mental Health presented the agency's 2025 service summary to the Posey County Commissioners on Jan. 21, reporting 488 individuals served countywide and 8,002 services delivered.
Adams said the agency responded to 92 crisis calls, provided 189 Stepping Stone bed days to Posey County residents, completed 238 intakes and served 334 adults and 154 children for diagnoses including PTSD, anxiety disorders and substance-use disorders. She said the first half of 2025 saw a six-day average wait for assessments and that the last six months recorded a zero-day average wait; similarly, days between assessment and treatment fell from nine to four days across those periods.
Adams said Southwestern Mental Health began services in West Elementary and Mt. Vernon Junior High in 2025 and reported a positive response with plans to expand to other schools. Commissioners commended improvements and the stakeholder survey results provided (13 responses out of 100 surveyed).
