Courthouse vandalism, hazardous pines and accessibility gaps spur maintenance work orders

Head Custodian Cliff Ross told the Putnam County Board of Commissioners that two county-owned buildings at the old school property were broken into and a push mower and an air compressor were stolen; he said he reported the incidents to law enforcement.
Commissioners also raised safety and accessibility issues at the Putnam County Courthouse. President Andy Beck said several pine trees on the courthouse lawn appear to be at risk of falling; Commissioner Rick Woodall moved and the board unanimously directed Ross to obtain quotes for tree removal or mitigation. Beck also said multiple annex restrooms have step-ups that make them inaccessible to people using wheelchairs, and the board asked Ross to gather estimates to update those facilities.
No immediate contracts were awarded on Feb. 16; commissioners instructed staff to solicit estimates and return recommendations to a future meeting.
