Posey County backs hiring a third full-time dispatcher and moves to seek console upgrade quotes

Posey County commissioners on Feb. 18 supported adding a third full-time dispatcher and instructed staff to seek proposals to upgrade emergency dispatch consoles to accommodate growth.
E-911 Director Jamie Bradford said radios were reviewed and that she is working on a maintenance agreement with vendor J&K. Bradford told the board she "would like to proceed with obtaining quotes to update the current dispatch consoles" to allow for planned growth and said she plans to request two additional full-time dispatchers. She described a proposed reconfiguration that would establish a dedicated law and safety channel and be handled by a dispatcher each shift.
County Attorney Joe Harrison advised Bradford to send a request for sealed proposals to the Auditor's office for the console project. Commissioner Greg Newman moved to support hiring a third dispatch position; Eric Koester seconded and the motion carried 3-0.
Bradford also discussed adding repeaters at some sites to provide an extra talk path per repeater and said some sites might require physical expansion to house additional equipment. She said she has requested a study to estimate the cost of moving to an 800-megahertz system; commissioners asked her to proceed with that study.
