Pike County approves three condemnation settlements and reviews year-end finances

Pike County commissioners on Feb. 17 approved three negotiated settlements related to right-of-way condemnations on County Road 300 and received the auditor’s year-end reporting.
County Attorney Val Fleig and Highway Office Manager Melanie Britton reported the negotiated figures reached via mediator for three landowners and recommended approval. The board voted 3-0 to approve the settlements: $6,000 to Brian Sutt (appraisers award $3,650), $37,500 to Jarod and Marva Bradfield (appraisers award $17,200), and $100,000 to Daniel Staake (appraisers award $83,840). Fleig said he believed the settlements were fair.
County Auditor Judith Gumbel presented Form 100R showing employee compensation totals for 2025 (contracted labor excluded) and reported the final 2026 budget as $23,079,381.26 (including $654,458.26 in encumbrances). Gumbel also reported a 2025 payment to Eck-Mundy totaling $260,869.93 to inform future technology expenditure planning.
The board also approved routine items including the reappointment of Kristi Dischinger to a PTA BOA position, a $6,000 additional appropriation request for the courthouse RFP (CEDIT), and hiring of a contractor to mow three county cemeteries at stated per-mow rates. Superintendent Josh Byrd reported a box culvert installation scheduled next week. The meeting adjourned by unanimous motion.
