Pike County commissioners approve grants, policies and a slate of appointments

Pike County commissioners on Jan. 20 approved a series of routine and financial actions, including acceptance of a CHIRP grant, steps to proceed with 2026 Community Crossing Matching Grant (CCMG) projects, and the release of roads under an Arevon development bond after full payment.
The meeting opened with approval of the Jan. 5, 2025 minutes (motion by Commissioner Ryan Coleman; second by Commissioner Jeff Nelson) and approval of the claims for Jan. 20, 2026 (motion by Commissioner Jeff Nelson; second by Commissioner Ryan Coleman). Both motions carried 3–0.
County Administrator Kristi Dischinger said the county has the CHIRP grant and has coordinated with the sheriff’s department; commissioners formally approved accepting the grant so it could be reflected in the minutes and signed (motion by Commissioner Coleman; second by Commissioner Nelson; vote 3–0).
Highway Office Manager Melanie Britton asked the board to authorize advertisement for bids on the county’s approved CCMG projects and reported that project scope had not changed; the board also accepted a CCMG contract draft received from INDOT and authorized Dischinger to sign electronically when the docu-sign request arrives. Both motions carried 3–0.
President Mark Flint explained the county had received two payments from Arevon—$374,226.91 and $1,006,723.09—totaling $1,380,950.00 and called for release of the bonded roads under Resolution 2026-01. Commissioners approved the bond release unanimously.
The board also approved a batch of internal policy changes: revisions to the employee handbook (see separate article), a revised credit-card policy directing written requests to the auditor and requiring county business shipping addresses, and a requested four‑day workweek trial for the courthouse matron. Commissioners approved the 2026 appointments and reappointments to boards and authorities (a long slate presented by Dischinger) by a single motion; that motion carried 3–0.
The meeting closed with department updates and no public comment. The board adjourned by unanimous vote.
