Pike County commissioners on Feb. 2 approved a resolution to begin the formal dissolution process of the county’s Solid Waste Management District.
Commissioners were told the process is the first step and will take a minimum of six months to complete. The Solid Waste Board initiated the idea; board members cited Allen County’s prior experience dissolving a similar district as background. County officials said that because the district collects tipping fees, there should be no new costs to the county budget as a result of dissolution.
The resolution passed unanimously, 3-0. County staff did not outline a detailed timeline or the administrative steps that will follow beyond the six-month minimum. The board’s action starts the statutory and administrative process for dissolution; additional public notices, hearings, or council actions may be required as the process proceeds.
