Jackson County Council approves $724,946 in 2025 carryovers, re-elects officers and ratifies bond correction

Jackson County's five-member council voted unanimously Jan. 21 to approve a set of routine and fiscal items, including $724,946.31 in budget carryovers for 2025 expenditures, the re-election of council officers and a ratification of a scrivener's error in a previously adopted bond resolution.
The council, with Michael Davidson, John Nolting, Brett Turner, Jacquelyn Jasinski and Vice President Brian Thompson present, approved the carryover requests after department summaries were read into the record. The total carryover amount approved was $724,946.31; the largest line items included $409,918.69 for the Auditor, $234,363.85 for Highway, $34,830.91 for the Jail and $17,781.85 for the Assessor. Jacquelyn Jasinski moved to approve the carryovers and John Nolting seconded; the motion passed 5-0.
In organizational business, the council re-elected Brady Riley as council president (motion by Michael Davidson, second by John Nolting) and re-elected Brian Thompson as vice president (motion by Brett Turner, second by Jacquelyn Jasinski). Both officer elections passed unanimously, with the five members present voting yes.
The council also addressed an error in an executed bond document (Council Bill/Resolution #43) and voted to ratify the correct dollar amount as printed elsewhere in the adopted resolution. Brett Turner moved to ratify the correction; Michael Davidson seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
On economic development, the council approved Resolution No. 2 / Council Bill No. I (2026), granting a real property tax abatement to Seymour Properties, Inc. Council clarified that the abatement applies to the improvement (not personal property) and adopted a three-year, declining-percentage schedule with equal thirds each year. Jacquelyn Jasinski moved and Michael Davidson seconded; the measure passed unanimously.
Other routine items acted on included approval of the Dec. 17, 2025 minutes (motion by Jacquelyn Jasinski, second by Brett Turner) and a motion to adjourn by Brett Turner, seconded by Jacquelyn Jasinski. Both motions passed 5-0. The council set its next regular meeting for Feb. 18 at 8:00 a.m.
