Jackson County Council approves $3 million litigation reserve, 3% pay increase for 2026

Jackson County Council voted unanimously Dec. 17 to approve multiple fiscal measures, including an additional-appropriations ordinance that adds $3,000,000 for litigation and settlement expenditures and $21,000 to cover a translator grant rollover deficit.
The meeting opened at 8:00 a.m., and President Brady Riley presided. At first and second readings the council passed Council Bill No. 44 (Ordinance #41). Brett Turner moved first-reading approval; Brian Thompson seconded. Jacquelyn Jasinski moved second-reading approval; Turner seconded. Both readings passed with six yes votes and no recorded dissents.
The council also approved a 2026 Salary Ordinance that provides a 3% cost-of-living increase for all salary classifications. The salary ordinance passed both readings unanimously; Brian Thompson moved first-reading approval (seconded by Turner), and Michael Davidson moved second-reading approval (seconded by Jasinski).
Council members also approved Resolution #12 to transfer funds within existing appropriations, moves that reallocated small sums among Public Defender, Alcohol & Drug, and Visitor Center accounts. Thompson moved the transfers at first reading; Jacquelyn Jasinski seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, the council voted to continue its engagement with Reedy Financial Group for financial and budgeting services. Thompson moved approval of the Reedy engagement letter and agreement; Michael Davidson seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
All formal motions and readings noted in the meeting record passed 6–0. The council did not record any amendments that changed the dollar amounts approved. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21 at 8:00 a.m.
