Macon County commissioners enter closed session to interview county manager candidates, begin contract talks

The Macon County Board of Commissioners reconvened its continued session at 9:00 a.m. March 4 and, at 9:01 a.m., voted unanimously to go into closed session to interview candidates for the county manager position and discuss terms of potential appointment. The motion to enter closed session was made by Commissioner Shields and seconded by Commissioner Breeden. The board cited N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6) as the authority for closing the meeting to the public.
Chairman Josh Young told the board to hold Interim County Manager Warren Cabe in the board room until the commissioners were ready to admit him to the closed session. The board returned to open session at 11:14 a.m. on a motion by Commissioner Breeden, seconded by Commissioner Antoine; that motion also passed unanimously.
After returning to open session, Chairman Josh Young reported that the board had completed its interviews for the County Manager position and had entered contract negotiations. He said the board would provide an update at its March 11, 2025 regular meeting.
With no other business, Commissioner Shearl moved to adjourn at 11:16 a.m.; Commissioner Shields seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
