Macon County board reestablishes community funding pool committee 4–1; approves appointments, leases and resolutions

The Macon County Board of Commissioners on April 8 handled several governance and administrative matters, including reestablishing a community funding committee, reappointing the county attorney and approving property and lease actions.
Community Funding Pool: County Manager Warren Cabe reviewed that $75,000 is available and that committee terms had expired; some designated agencies no longer exist. He recommended advertising vacancies and requiring applicants to state which organization they represent on the application. Commissioner Shields moved and Commissioner Antoine seconded to reestablish the committee under Mr. Cabe’s guidance; the motion passed 4–1, with Commissioner Shearl opposed.
Appointments and personnel: The board unanimously reappointed County Attorney Eric Ridenour to a four‑year term and unanimously appointed Courtney Patrick to one seat on the Board of Health.
Property and lease actions: Attorney Eric Ridenour reported no upset bids were received for surplus property at 651 East Main Street; the board accepted the existing offer of $175,000. The board also approved a one‑year lease renewal for Cowee School that had expired April 19; the vote was unanimous.
Procurement resolution: The board unanimously approved a resolution exempting architectural services for the Solid Waste Recovery Building from Article 3D of Chapter 143 of the North Carolina General Statutes and recommended retaining Looper Architectural Services, which is currently working on county projects.
The board entered and exited a closed session under NCGS 143‑318.11(a)(3) to consult with the county attorney; no public action was recorded during the closed session. The meeting adjourned at 8:14 p.m.
