County staff told the board on Jan. 14 that Architect Peter Looper has prepared plans and the Macon Early College project is ready to go to bid. The school requested an alternate to enclose the front of the building and create two offices with a secure entrance at an estimated cost of $9,250; the board approved the alternate and a budget amendment of $9,250 from contingency.
Commissioner Shields moved to approve the request and a contingency-funded budget amendment; Commissioner Breeden seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Mr. Morgan said the alternate will be included in the bidding process as an add-on item and staff will proceed accordingly.
Why it matters: The addition will add a secure entry and administrative space for the school and was approved as a bid alternate so the county can weigh cost and contractor proposals during the bidding process.
