Macon County approves TANF electing-county plan projected to bring $183,000 per year

The Macon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) electing-county plan for fiscal years 2026–2028 at its Feb. 11 meeting.
Patrick Betancourt, director of the Department of Social Services, presented the plan and introduced Sheila Conley and Amy Mason from the department. Betancourt said the plan—which the county submits to the state every two years—would return approximately $183,000 per year to the county and would include programmatic steps to hold recipients accountable before receiving public assistance.
Commissioner Shields moved to approve the plan and Commissioner Antoine seconded; the board’s vote was unanimous. No amendments were proposed during the meeting. County staff will proceed with the state submission and incorporate the plan’s expected funding into forthcoming budget materials.
