Solid-waste scales boost revenue by $30,402 despite lower tonnage, court hears

The Grant County Quorum Court heard a Solid Waste Committee update at its April 21, 2025 meeting in the Grant County Courthouse. Judge Randy Pruitt reported that, since installing scales, the county recorded 296 fewer tons collected compared with the same timeframe last year but increased revenue by $30,402 because loads were weighed.
Pruitt said part of the decrease in tonnage was due to shingles from last year's storms being a factor in prior-year totals. During the discussion Justice Tony Carder asked whether the recent flood had damaged county roads; Pruitt replied there was some damage on the back side of Cox Creek and that a culvert washed out on Grant 43, which required the road to be closed overnight before it could be repaired.
No specific repair timetable or cost estimate was provided in the minutes. Treasurer Tim Stuckey also told the court he will recap the recently concluded legislative session and FOIA changes at the next meeting.
