Sports Ohio reports stronger operations under new management; staff flags capital needs

Kendall Blake (city staff) reviewed the management transition: the city contracted with SFC on July 1, 2025, and SFC assumed day-to-day operations in August. Blake introduced Joe Bauserman, the new general manager, and Scott Rogers of SFC; Bauserman thanked council and said he was excited to be back in the community.
Scott Rogers described staffing gains and programming: adult and youth leagues restarted (145 teams registered this January), rental hours and games have rebounded and bookings for spring and summer tournaments are underway. Rogers said SFC has hired food-and-beverage, maintenance and venue staff, and noted partnerships to improve operations and reduce costs.
From a financial perspective, city staff said SFC operated within the approved budget and that net operating income for 2025 was about $262,000 (operating funds only; capital funds tracked separately). Staff cautioned that capital investments remain necessary; identified needs include HVAC upgrades in the indoor facility, a replacement pump system for the golf course irrigation and improved public Wi‑Fi and security cameras. Staff said the city will evaluate capital requests and include necessary items in upcoming budget cycles and supplemental requests.
What’s next: SFC and city staff will finalize programming, continue hiring, and prepare capital requests with supporting evaluations before seeking council approval.
