City auditors presented the fiscal year 2025 audit and the council approved the report with a reservation about the unaudited statistical data.
Alan Lawrence of Crowe told council the firm issued an unmodified opinion on the financial statements and did not identify material misstatements or disagreements with management. Key financial highlights cited at the meeting included an ending net position of about $321 million, current and capital assets around $424 million, and an unassigned general fund balance of about $20.9 million (enough to cover more than a year of general fund expenditures per the auditor's liquidity calculation).
Council questioned an apparent discrepancy in the audit packet—s population figures (the statistical section cited 54,629 on one page while other material in the packet referenced roughly 42,000). Auditor Lawrence confirmed the statistical section is unaudited and recommended the council adopt the audit with a statement noting the demographic data was not verified as part of the audit. Council moved and approved the audit with that stipulation.
Next steps: The council approved the FY2025 audit and added a motion that the demographic/statistical data be acknowledged as unaudited in the record; staff will ensure the audit letter and minutes reflect that stipulation.
