LEPC adds UWSP risk manager to membership, sets 2026 meeting dates

The Portage County Local Emergency Planning Committee voted to add Melissa Deer Saracen to its membership after she introduced herself at the meeting and was nominated by members.
"I'm Melissa Deer Saracen. I'm a PWSP as risk manager," she said when introducing herself. Chair requested and received a motion and second; members voted in favor by voice vote. The coordinator said Tanner and the chair will draft a letter to executive operations to finalize the addition and that new members will be added to the official registry once executive operations signs off.
The committee also reviewed and approved the proposed 2026 meeting calendar: Feb. 5, May 7, Aug. 6 and Nov. 5, with a tentative Feb. 5 meeting at the First County law enforcement training room at 8:30 a.m.
The membership term referenced in the packet is four years. The committee discussed some housekeeping changes to the roster (retirements and replacements) and noted updates will be routed to executive operations for administrative approval.
The minutes from the Aug. 7 LATC meeting were also presented and approved earlier in the session by voice vote.
