Portage County emergency management updates 2026 disaster plan, signs up for 2027 state exercise

Portage County emergency management staff told the Public Safety Emergency Management Committee they have updated the county's 2026 disaster plan and completed contact information for pipeline response after working with Enertec, the pipeline company.
"We've been updating and starting with the, 2026 update of the county disaster plan," an emergency management official said, and added the pipeline contact information was finalized "just finished that yesterday." The official said the office is coordinating early with the state for a preliminary planning session for a large 2027 state exercise, calling it "probably gonna be a pretty big exercise, so we wanna make sure we get in on the action, in the beginning."
The official also described recent coordination with the American Red Cross's new management team and a meeting with Northeast Regional Disaster Managers. They said the county has scheduled a countywide damage-assessment training for Feb. 19 and plans to work post-disaster with the Village of Culver, local municipalities, a university and county partners.
On grants, staff reported the county's EPTA grant is nearing final closeout "by the end of the week" and that they are waiting for state follow-up on a modified grant affected by a federal shutdown. The committee placed the emergency management activity report on file and moved on to other agenda items.
